Odessa Lillie Mae Oates  87, was the 6^th child born to Landon and Clara Erby Moore on October 27, 1922 in Blackwell, Arkansas.  Her parents, her husband, Carl Herman Oates, her son, Willie Floyd Oates, two sisters, Clara Lee Newton and Rosetta Davenport; two brothers, Willie and Otis Moore preceded her in death.

She met and married Carl Herman Oates on November 8, 1941, and to this union two sons were born.  Carl Herman, Odessa and Willie Floyd left Blackwell, Arkansas in the 1940's and moved to Kansas City, Kansas.

She worked domestically from time to time and was an outstanding homemaker to her husband and children. Odessa united with Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church and was a faithful member for over 60 years.  She sang in the Adult Choir, a member of the Missionary Department and regularly attended Sunday School.

Odessa loved her family dearly and looked forward to the family gathering.

Odessa Lilly Mae Oates departed this life on Monday, April 26, 2010.

She leaves to cherish her memory:  her beloved youngest son, Herman Oates, Jr. of the home; one daughter-in-law, Pasty Miller-Oates of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Josephine Moore-Anderson of Flint, Michigan; one brother, Elroy Randolph Moore of Kansas City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Willie Oates, Jr., Deborah D. Oates, Gregory Oates and Deanna Oates all of Kansas City, Missouri; 27 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of many loving family members, friends, neighbors and church members.
